Rumi
If you want what visible reality
can give, you’re an employee.
If you want the unseen world,
you’re not living your truth.
Both wishes are foolish,
but you’ll be forgiven for forgetting
that what you really want is
love’s confusing joy.-Rumi

Etta James
It’s easy for me to remember where I was the first time I heard Etta James sing ‘I’d rather go blind’. I was sitting on the floor of Dave Sitek’s Brooklyn loft probably 6 years ago. He said he had something I should hear and proceeded to play that song. I recall feeling paralyzed by her voice, completely stunned. When it was done I asked him if we could hear it again and again. Of course, I’d heard the classic ‘At Last’ at every wedding I’d ever been to, but beyond that I didn’t know her music. I went through a massive soul music discovery in the 90’s, Curtis Mayfield, Marvin Gaye, Nina Simone,Taj Mahal, but never found her. She was a treat that had been saved for me to find later, when I was ready. Dave turned to me and said, “You should cover this.” Little did he know the world he had just opened up to me.
Needless to say, I fell for Etta, hard. That scorching, complicated voice, with one sassy woman attached to it. She was a classic. I have traveled all over the world and covered her song countless times, and it is always met by the same response “I love her.”
I love her too.
They say imitation is the highest form of flattery, so below I’ve posted Etta doing the original of this song, which really no one can ever touch. Then I’ve posted my personal favorite recordings of the boys and I playing our sweaty, sometimes rocky, version of it.
This ones for you Etta.

OCCUPY WALLSTREET is a people powered movement in a show of solidarity for democracy that began in America on September 17 2011 and continues with an encampment in the financial district on Wall Street in New York City. Day 10 and counting and there has been a complete media blackout. The bankers manufacture recessions & depressions to exert a greater control over social & political structures. The banksters create & finance the wars on both sides of the conflicts. The banksters orchestrate famine, poverty and debt. The banksters control the policies that control the media and the education system that is operated to maintain ignorance in the public, but we can change that. The American People are waking up. We were born free yet the system around us has been designed in such a deceptively clever way that you end up willingly giving up your god given rights. The veils are lifting, and no amount of mental or emotional distraction can stand in the way of a truth whose time has come, the game is rigged. The richest 1% of Americans possess more wealth THAN THE COMBINED WEALTH OF THE BOTTOM 90% and in intentionally orchestrated times of recession and depression the 1% are thriving with record profits. It’s time the abuse and corruption of corporations, banks and governments reaches the spotlight. It’s time to abolish the Federal Reserve and end corporate greed. Disclaimer : The following are photos documenting the current occupation of Wall Street by the American citizens, no ownership or copyright is claimed and a tremendous amount of gratitude is expressed to the various photographers. The media is not doing it’s job, so social media will. The revolving doors of Banking Cartels, Corporations and Governments do not represent the people. If you are not able to stand in solidarity on Wall Street to express your views on a failed system, you can use the internet, your voice and your everyday position in life to participate as well as becoming the change you wish to see. Share your talents, gifts and peaceful solutions, the world is waiting for your contributions. Those who stand for nothing, fall for anything. What’s Your Role? SHARE & COMMENT : For more information visitwww.occupywallstreet.org
